A Chinese Bowl Bought for $3 Was Sold for $2.2 Million at an Auction
n 2013, a New York family won the lottery in the form of ceramic bowl.
It turns out that the $3 bowl they bought at a yard sale was actually a 1,000-year-old piece of Oriental art.
According to Sotheby's auction house, the bowl was from the pottery works of the Northern Song dynasty, which ruled China from 960 to 1127.
The family who purchased the bowl in 2007 claimed it rested on their mantel for years before it was auctioned.
The only other similar bowl known to be in existence has been in a British Museum for more than half a century.
