NYPD Chief of Transportation William Morris is hospitalized in critical condition as he fights coronavirus, the Daily News has learned.
The 61-year-old cop is at least the second NYPD chief to be hospitalized with the virus. NYPD Chief of Transit Edward Delatorre was also hospitalized with COVID-19 and survived.
Retired NYPD Chief of Transit Joseph Fox was also diagnosed with coronavirus.
“Chief Morris has dedicated his life to the NYPD,” Chris Monahan, the president of the Captain’s Endowment Association, said Tuesday. “We are praying for him and his family and we hope he recovers.”
The NYPD could not comment on Morris’ condition Tuesday.
Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said Tuesday that 31 NYPD members have so far died from COVID-19 since the outbreak began. An additional 4,981 uniformed members were out sick, which accounts for nearly 14% of uniformed officers.
