A homeless man who claimed his 6-year-old daughter was stabbed by muggers on the Lower East Side actually knifed his own child, then lied about the robbery to cover his up crime, police said Friday.
Jia Pan stabbed his child in the stomach while the two were staying at the Volunteers for America shelter on Broadway near W. 103rd St. on the Upper West Side Wednesday night, cops said.
He then walked his daughter to Monroe and Pike Sts. on the Lower East Side and called 911, claiming that the two were mugged by bandits, police said.
Medics took the child to Bellevue Hospital where she underwent surgery and was expected to recover.
Pan claimed that he and his daughter was walking the streets when two muggers approached and demanded his property. As he and the phantom crooks struggled, the child ended between them and was stabbed in the stomach, Pan told police.
He said the thieves made off with his gold chain and a credit card, police said. Cops became suspicious when they found that Pan still had a large amount of cash on him and several credit cards.

He also kept changing his story, cops said.
“When he was taken in for questioning, things didn’t add up,” a source said. “After we questioned him some more, he admitted to stabbing his daughter.”
Cops charged Pan with attempted manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. His arraignment was pending in Manhattan Criminal Court Friday.
It was not immediately clear why Pan attacked his daughter.
